FRENCH
ACCEN TS
Joni, an interior designer,
searches antiques stores
for furniture that has the
curved lines and darker
wood tones she notes as
hallmarks of French style.
Once back in her home,
she gives the pieces her
signature touch with white
linen slipcovers and, more
recently, an infusion of
animal print pillows. Joni
aims for a relaxed, layered
look with accessories.
Though she packs a lot in,
she keeps it neat by
stacking books as pedestals
for globes, hanging maps
and prints in matching
black frames, keeping
accents in a consistent
palette (she loves blue-and-
white porcelain and
mercury glass vessels), and
using antique baskets to
contain clutter.
INTERPRETING
TRENDS
Even though she thinks of
her style as classic, Joni
likes to work in trends she
finds on design blogs. After
a conversation about
ethnic textiles with her
readers on her blog, Cote
de Texas, she hunted down
a suzani on eBay, buying
several before finding
exactly what she wanted.
The combination of black,
red, and fuchsia adds just
the right amount of color
to the understated room.
